In 1999, I curated the exhibition, Portraiture & The Harlem Renaissance: The Photographs of James L. Allen at the Yale University Art Gallery. Devoted to the Harlem Renaissance photographer, James Latimer Allen (1907-1977), this show restored this forgotten artist to his significant place within Harlem’s important interwar art scene. My research on Allen is ongoing.
